New Commissioner School

The 2019 Schedule for the New Commissioner classes have not yet been set. Look for classes to be held some time in August of 2019.  The Clerk of Court Election Department will post class dates and times as soon as we have them confirmed.

If you are interested in becoming a commissioner, once a year the Office of the Calcasieu Parish Clerk of Court will hold a new commissioner school.
Requirements to become a Commissioner:

1) You are a registered voter in Calcasieu Parish at the time of the class or a person who is at least 17 years of age, provided that the person is enrolled in a high school or is participating at the twelfth grade level in a home study program approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

2) You do NOT need assistance in voting.

3) You may NOT be a candidate in the Election.

4) You have NOT been convicted of an Election offense.

The class will last approximately 3 hours. You will be instructed on all aspects of the commissioner's duties for Election day as well as having hands-on experience opening and closing a voting machine. At the conclusion of the instruction, you will take an open book test on the information you have learned during the class.
